Picture Hanging Wires

AS Hanging Display Systems offers picture hanging wires, such as cables and cords, as vertical elements to hang you artworks from the chosen picture hanging rail system.

Our picture hanging wires are offered in various lengths: 48″, 72″, 96″ and 120″.

You have hung your paintings or objects using our hanging systems and the hanging cables are a little too long… Simply roll them up behind the work!

First Steps

When your track is installed on the wall or the ceiling, insert the cable or cord into the track. Slide the hook on the cable or cord and hang your artwork on the hook. The chosen cable/cord might be too long for your actually use, but it is important not to cut off the excess. You might need that cable length for future possible use: higher ceilings, multiple picture hanging, etc.

The solution is to roll up the picture hanging wires behind the artwork as shown on the picture. 

Learn how to roll cables

It’s simple to hold cable in place, to hide it from the view and to keep the length for future possible use.

Take the cable/cord under the hook and rolled it a few times. Try to make each loop the same size. Neat and tidy. Our stainless-steel cable and nylon cord are easy to roll.

Now that you’ve got your cord mostly wrapped up, you should only have the tail end left. Tuck the end of the cable/cord a few times into the bundle you created. Tucking it in will help hold it in place.

If you prefer, wrap a piece of tape around the rolled picture hanging wire.

Why not cutting the cable/cord

Stainless steel cable should not be trimmed with common wire cutters, which are typically designed for soft copper wires. These will damage and fray steel “aircraft” cable that we provide. When our cables are cut in our factory the ends are fused to avoid frays. If you cut them in the field, they are likely to fray. However, we offer an inexpensive kit (Cable Trim Kit (PN #U5150AA) and procedure that will greatly assist your effort to professionally “field cut” our stainless steel cables.

The stainless-steel cable is constructed with 49 strands, using a 7 × 7 pattern. This particularly picture hanging wires are strong because they are woven from 7 strands, which are woven into a bundle. Then 7 bundles are wrapped around one another. That is why it is described as 7 bundles of 7 strands, or 7 × 7 wire rope construction.

At the opposite end of the cable assembly, we fuse the wire strands together. This is done to help prevent the cable from fraying. It keeps the 49 loose stands all bound together in one tight mass.

Further, there are many situations that will cause the need for steel cables to be field trimmed. When it is necessary to cut a cable, please use our Cable Trim Kit. This kit makes it possible to re-fuse the cut end with adhesives.

The Nylon Cord may be easily cut. Transparent cords are manufactured from a single nylon strand.

To sum up

1-If any extra cable length is visible, it may be easily coiled and hidden behind the artwork/object.

2-If you want to cut it: use our Cable Trim Kit (PN #U5150AA) to avoid stainless-steel cable to fray.
