On which wall types can I install an AS Hanging track?

AS Hanging Display Systems tracks install on nearly every solid wall: drywall, plaster, brick, concrete, and ceramic tile, as long as you use the fastener suited to that surface. The TripleGrip anchors supplied with most tracks cover drywall in 3/8, 1/2, and 5/8 inch thicknesses. Glass is the one exception, where a ceiling-mounted system is the better route.

Walls a track mounts on

Our wall track systems are designed to work across common construction types, including:

  • Drywall or gypsum board (3/8, 1/2, or 5/8 inch)
  • Plaster
  • Brick
  • Concrete
  • Ceramic tile

Match the fastener to the surface

The track is the same across wall types; only the fastener changes. The supplied TripleGrip anchors are sized for drywall, where they carry the load without hitting a stud. Masonry surfaces work differently: brick, concrete, and tile call for a masonry bit, a pilot hole, and anchors rated for that material, which you should confirm before drilling. On ceramic tile, drill slowly with a tile or masonry bit and consider placing holes in the grout line to reduce the risk of cracking. For older plaster, which can be brittle, our guide on hanging pictures on plaster walls covers technique in more detail.

What about glass or partitions?

Tracks cannot fasten to glass. When you are working with a glass wall, storefront, or full-height glazing, a ceiling-mounted hanging system is the perfect alternative, suspending your display from above without touching the glass.

Protecting your weight capacity

A track's rating assumes it is anchored into sound, solid backing. Hollow or crumbling substrates, such as deteriorated plaster, hollow-core brick, or tile set over an air gap, can reduce holding power even with the correct anchor. If you are unsure what is behind the surface, or you are planning a heavy display, verify the substrate first so you keep the full rated capacity.
