What is the best way to install the wall track perfectly level?

The cleanest way to install a wall track perfectly level is to mount it flush against the ceiling and follow the existing ceiling line, which hides the track and blends it into your décor. If you prefer a lower position, mark your pre-drill points with a standard or laser level before fastening, so the track runs straight across the wall.

Why is installing flush to the ceiling the easiest way to stay level?

Mounting flush to the ceiling gives you a built-in reference line. Instead of measuring and leveling from scratch, you follow the line where the wall meets the ceiling, which most rooms keep reasonably straight. This also produces the most discreet result, since the track tucks up out of sight and lets the artwork take center stage. It works well with surface-mounted rails from our wall and ceiling track systems, and it is the fastest approach for a single installer working alone.

How do you level a wall track mounted below the ceiling?

When you install lower on the wall, do not rely on the ceiling line, since it may not sit at the height you want. Decide on your mounting height at one end, then use a standard bubble level or a laser level to carry that height across the wall. Mark your pre-drill points along the leveled line, confirm the marks are even, and drill only after the full run looks straight. A laser level is especially helpful on long runs or when you are working solo, because it projects a continuous line you can mark against.

  • Set your starting height and mark it clearly.
  • Extend a level line across the wall with a bubble or laser level.
  • Mark and verify all pre-drill points before drilling.

What about built-in tracks like Shadowline and Deco Rail?

Built-in and concealed tracks install differently from surface-mounted rails, so their leveling steps and fasteners vary by profile. The Shadowline Wall Track tucks between the ceiling and the wallboard so only a subtle shadow line shows, while the Deco Rail Track mounts behind crown molding and disappears from view. For these systems, follow the installation guide included with your order or available for download, which walks you through the exact sequence and reference points for that specific track.
