Art & Picture Hanging Systems

In this gallery exhibit, framed prints appear to float in open air with no wall behind them. A tension cable picture hanging system runs cables between a top and bottom Classic Ceiling Track, creating virtual walls where none existed. Aluminum Frame Hooks grip each frame while Tensioning Springs pull the cables taut, so floating art hanging when wall do not exist becomes possible. In StockIN STOCK

    Summary

Floating art hanging when wall do not exist is exactly the problem this gallery had to solve. The exhibit space, all sloped timber ceilings, exposed beams, and angled surfaces, offered almost no usable flat wall to display framed prints. The answer was to build virtual walls out of thin air. Cables run from a ceiling track down to a matching track near the floor, pulled tight so they stand like invisible posts, and the framed works clip onto them at eye level. The result is a row of prints that seem to hover in the middle of the room, held by a tension cable picture hanging system that all but disappears.

      What the Exhibit Reveals

The photo shows framed engravings suspended in open space, lit warmly against the raw architecture behind them. There is no partition, no stud wall, and no drilling into the historic structure. Each frame floats on a pair of near-invisible vertical cables, spaced evenly down the room to create a display line where the building never provided one. It is a clean, gallery-grade solution to a space that would otherwise be impossible to hang.

      • Framed art floats in the center of the room, turning empty floor space into exhibit wall.
      • Vertical cables stay so thin they nearly vanish, keeping all eyes on the artwork.
      • The angled timber ceiling is left untouched, which matters in a heritage or architectural interior.
      • Works sit at a consistent height and spacing for a professional, curated look.

The Products Behind the Floating Art

This display is built from a short, purpose-matched set of parts, all from the AS Hanging Display Systems catalog so they work together cleanly. Two tracks, top and bottom, do the anchoring, the cable spans between them, a spring adds the tension, and the frame hooks carry the art.

      • Classic Ceiling Track anchors the cables at both the top and, in a tensioned run, the bottom. It supports 25 lb/ft (37 kg/m), comes in 6 ft lengths, and installs cleanly overhead and at floor level to frame the virtual wall.
      • P-End Stainless Steel Cable forms the invisible posts of each virtual wall. The aircraft grade steel version carries up to 45 lb (20 kg) per cable, far more than a framed print needs.
      • Aluminum Frame Hook clips to the side rails of an aluminum frame, so there is no need for hanging wire or D-rings. Sold in pairs and self-gripping, each attachment holds up to 33 lb (15 kg) and grips tighter under the weight of the art.
      • Tensioning Spring for Classic Tracks is what makes the cable stand straight. Fastened to the cable just above the bottom track, one per cable, it pulls the line taut between the top and bottom rails so the frames stay steady and plumb.

Why a Tension Cable Picture Hanging System Works Where Walls Do Not

Some of the best exhibit spaces are the hardest to hang, all glass, sloped ceilings, brick, or wide open floor. A tension cable picture hanging system solves that by making the display structure itself, rather than relying on a wall. This installation draws on two AS Hanging Display Systems families at once, the Ceiling system for the overhead anchor and the Tensioned system for the floor-to-ceiling cables that hold everything in place.

      • No wall needed. Cables tensioned between two tracks create a freestanding display line anywhere in the room.
      • The structure stays protected. Nothing is drilled into angled ceilings, glass, or heritage surfaces beyond the two track runs.
      • Layouts change fast. Slide a frame hook along the cable to re-space or re-hang the show with no patching.
      • The same idea builds room dividers and office partitions, not just exhibit walls.

      Design Ideas for Wall-Free Displays

The floating cable approach adapts to galleries, lofts, offices, and open-plan spaces. A few ways to make it your own:

      • Run a single line of cables to divide a room, or a double-sided display so art reads from both approaches.
      • Space the cables to suit your frame sizes, then keep the whole show at one consistent center line.
      • Use the tension cable picture hanging system as an office partition that still lets light through.
      • Mix frame sizes on the same cable run for a curated, salon-style rhythm.
      • Add lighting from above so the cables recede and the art appears to float on its own.
