Does AS Hanging Systems has an installation program or approved installers?

Product
Can your tracks be installed onto a brick wall?
Yes. AS Hanging Systems offers installation kits for a number of wall substrates. As the use of the correct fastener is critical to maintaining the weight capacity of such a system, please be certain to use the appropriate fasteners for your particular installation. Please refer to AS Hanging Systems Weight Guide for further details.

Where should the hang wire/eye hook be placed on the back of my artwork?
It is wise to attach the appropriate point of connection on the back of your art very high on the piece.

What hangers do I use for paintings that have wood frames with wire stretched between two eye hooks at the back of the frame?

Our systems work perfectly with this common approach!

You can choose between the Classic, Cable or Click Rail System.

If your painting is large, use two cords/cables/rods (one on the left side, one on the right side).

However, you may commonly come across art prepared under other configurations.

Should I use the galvanized/stainless steel cable rather than the transparent nylon cords?

A nylon cord is transparent, hence this approach is the most discrete way of hanging. Nylon cords will support up to 15-lbs. per cord and are recommended for light home or office use.

Galvanized and stainless steel cables are robust and cost effective hanging solution. Each cable can hold up to 45-lbs., with the appropriate hook. Please refer to AS Hanging Systems Weight Guide for further information.

Either of Nylon cords or steel cables may be used in tandem on a single object to share the load of heavier objects.

When do I select galvanized steel vs. stainless steel cable?

The galvanized/stainless steel cable is a simple, robust and cost effective hanging solution. Steel cables will support up to 45-lbss with the appropriate hook.

Stainless steel cable is made of stainless steel and will maintain its appearance over a very long time frame. It will not rust.

Galvanized steel cables are made of steel, which can rust. For this purpose we have our cable plated with a galvanized (zinc) process. This finish greatly slows oxidation (rust) but over time the cable will take on a dull grey appearance.

Is it possible to install a track at eye level and then use hooks, such as "C-Hooks" or "S-Hooks" to hang artwork directly from the hook/track?
This would work but our systems are not optimized to work in that manner.

How far apart are the pre-drilled holes in the Classic and Cable System Wall Tracks and Ceiling Tracks?

Our Classic and Cable System tracks are 78.75-inches long. Each track has a hole located 2-inches from either end.

Between these are a series of holes, which are spaced 6.75-inches apart, on center. All holes 1/8-inch in diameter (0.125-inch), which is appropriate for either of #6 or #8 size screws.

Will the holes hit the studs in the wall and ceiling?
This is impossible to predict as building codes vary by location, building type and age. Use our anchor kits to make solid track installation and refer to AS Hanging Systems Installation Guide.

Does the ceiling track have holes to be mounted both in the ceiling and wall or just the ceiling?
Holes are pre-drilled only in the surface that attaches to the ceiling. Just ceiling! If you choose, you may easily drill a second set of holes to fix the track to the wall.

How do I install the Wall Tracks on my walls?
Whenever possible, screw into the wood studs (or header) behind the wall surface or use the appropriate screw anchor. In many installations, Wall Tracks are mounted very high on the wall and will always allow you to screw into the header of the wall structure. Check AS Hanging Systems Installation Guide for more information. Click here to download
[Back to top]

Do I need special tools to install the track?
It always depends on your wall structure, but most of the time anyone with a small project experience can do it easily. Please refer to AS Hanging Systems Installation Guide.

Which, if any, picture hooks are adjustable up and down the cables/cords/rods while a painting is attached?
Most of our hooks will support this functionality! Classic System hooks makes this very easy! With the Cable System, you must choose a "self-gripping" type hook. This should never be attempted using thumb-screw activated hooks.

Do you have a catalog showing all your tracks, hooks and other hardware?

Yes, we have a complete catalog/price list that can be mailed to you.

This can also be downloaded here.

You can also use our online store (click here) and click the small image (“VIEW PICTURE”) under product thumbnails to view full-size picture and drawings of each product.

We can fax or email you our catalog/price list - includes product thumbnails. Contact our Customer Service staff at 866-935-6949.

Do I install a length of track above just where I am going to hang a piece of art? Do I hang track on the entire length of wall? Do I need to install in the entire room?

You may elect any approach that makes sense in your application. However, you should be aware that our track could last for as long as the building stands. For that reason you may want to think of aesthetics as well as functionality. You’ll want to be certain those who occupy the space after you will not see your efforts and investment in hanging systems as an eye-sore.

Typically a hanging system has the best appearance when it is installed on the entire length of a wall or in the entire room. Also consider our Click Rail product line, which is very discreet. It can be used in conjunction with both contemporary and traditional décor and even be used with crown moldings.

How do I determine how many tracks will be required for my application?

Calculate the length of wall(s) you need to address. Take accurate measurements; if there are many corners, consider a safety buffer to account losses due to cuts you will make in the tracks.

For example: You need to install track on all the walls of a 15-foot by 12-foot room.  This is a total of 54 linear feet. You will want to order 9 tracks (each are 6.5-feet) for a total of 58.5-feet. In larger spaces, and in spaces with many corners you will want to order 10 – 20% extra.

How many rods/cables do I need?

Calculate your needs according to the number of art pieces you would like to suspend.

For a gallery or exhibition spaces, plan for 3.25 rods/cables/cords per each length of track (6.5-feet) and 1.15 hooks per rod/cable/cord.

If you hang miniatures or small artwork, additional rods/cables/cords will be required. More hooks will be needed if you hang multiple pieces from the same rod/cable/cord (1-up, 2-up, 3-up, etc.)

Several small paintings can be suspended from a single rods/cables/cords (do not exceed the weight limitations). See AS Hanging Systems Weight Guide for more discussion on this topic.

Some of the tracks come in many colors? Why?

Over the years we have addressed several special requests. The most frequent requests have been added to the product line. Some of these colors are less than obvious and serve clever purposes. If your walls are off-white in grey or blue tones, you might consider "Silver". It does a good job of blending in with these surroundings. A color that is good for assuming the shades of tan, beige and other earth-tone shades is our "Champagne". Our "Gold" tone is a subtle brassy shade.

However, among our Click Rail product line you will see we offer a track finished in genuine 24 ct. gold. Please call us to coordinate if you wish to order 24 ct. gold as this track cannot be cut in the field. Yes, we do consider special custom finish requests with sufficient volume.

Can I paint the tracks to match my decor color?

Yes. If you are ordering Classic/Cable System track, please order "Natural Aluminum" finish. Use a primer sealer and then follow with regular wall paint or automotive paint (in spray can) for optimal results.

If you are ordering Click Rail track, please order "Primed White" tracks. These are  "primed" with a premium powder-coat finish and are intended to be re-painted. Use regular wall paint to cover the current finish.

Can I paint the Rods (Classic System) to have colors other than the ones you provide?

No. If you paint the rod, the paint will peel when any of out rod hooks slides on it.

We can produce special colors for large orders if needed, contact our Customer Service at 866-935-6949.

How will my artwork connect to your systems?

Our several hanging systems have no particular requirements. Typically, the hang wire, eyehook or D-hook located on the back of your artwork will simply attach to the hook installed on the rod/cable/cord.

However, we do offer several specialty hooks, which provide specialty benefits or address specific needs.

Can I mix different products on one track?

Classic and Cable Systems use the same two tracks. As a result, Classic System rods and Cable System cables can be mixed.

However, cables from the Click Rail system are unique to this system and cannot be repurposed.

Cable/cord hooks from Cable System, Click Rail System and Tensioned Cable Systems are inter-changeable.

Museum System components are also mutually exclusive.

I want to install your system in a public space (school, hotel, restaurant, etc.), what do you recommend?
Either our Classic System Anti-Theft Secure Rod with Anti-Theft Secure Hook or the Tension Cable System. Both systems will prevent artwork removal or accidental movement.

I have a plexiglass panel that I need to hang in my store, what kind of hook should I use?
Use our Cable Clamps (from Classic or Click Rail System). The maximum material thickness that this attachment will accommodate is slightly more than 1/8-inch (0.157-inch) or 0.4cm. This technique will require four Cable Clamps, which will be attached to the left and right edges of the panel.

What is your cable diameter?
Nylon Cords (transparent and colored) are 0.078-inches (2.0mm)
Galvanized and Stainless Steel Cables are 0.071-inches (1.8mm)

Can your systems be used with an existing wood molding.

Yes! If your interior space has pre-installed “picture rails” as were common in residences from the 1880’s thru the 1920’s, we can customize the top part of our Classic System Rods to fit over your wood molding. Also available in our Specialty Hardware section, the Molding Hook is a great solution. To these you can match our Loop-End cables. This will result in the look of times past with the functionality of our new age systems.

Finally, our Click Rail track can be installed to fit under, or behind, an existing crown molding, see AS Hanging Systems Installation Guide.

Can I cut the Galvanized/Stainless Cables? Nylon Cords?
The Nylon Cords can be cut without any special requirement. The Galvanized/Stainless steel cable should not be cut. Our cables are cut and fuzed using laser cutters. This avoids the ends from becoming frayed. If you cut them in the field they are like to fray. If possible we recommend you roll any extra cable length and hide it on the back of hanging artwork.
